How can I make them love me?

A love potion: Gaetano Donizetti had it for his opera L’Elisir d’amour, Tristan and Isolde had it, even Harry Potter had it… why can’t it exist in real life? 

Of course, this is a rhetorical question, we all know how bad that would be, love potions for sale at the discounter. Just imagine all the confusion, especially if one person is given the potion of many, and they would give it back to someone completely different. In fact and funnily, sounds like what is happening in the real world. 

Love is happening. And there is very little we can do about it. We all know – we cannot make someone love us, and we cannot love someone even if we would like to if we don’t. Of course, there is a chance we learn to love someone if we get to know them better, but also this cannot be forced. It happens, or it doesn’t. 

So what can we do if we love someone and that person does not love us back? If there is friendship, we can highly appreciate and enjoy the friendship and the time we spend together. No need to put pressure on the person, as this will only push them away. Accept that this is what is. 

But most importantly: never think they do not love you because you are not good enough, not beautiful enough or whatever you might think about yourself to be the reason, that does not shine a positive light on yourself. If you – you yourself realize – that there is something you can improve, go for it. If you wanted to lose that weight for ages, go for it. If you think that a new lifestyle would be good for you, go for it. But make it about YOU. Do it, because it is what you want and feel is right for you. Do it, because it makes you be more you. Never change for someone else in order to get them or make them love you. It might work short-term, but in the long run, will probably inflict your happiness. Be happy in the now, just for yourself. This is how you make sure you will be happy in the future.
